June 2025
We are often surprised that there are so few medical cases to attend to amongst our children. But when there are, we are painfully aware of the inadequacies of the government hospitals and clinics. Two months ago, James Chiboni, a Grade 9 pupil at Lmapela Cedric's, suffered a combined tibia-fibula fracture during a football match. Treatment at the Chamboli Hospital was unsuccessful, and James feared that he would never walk again. So we appreciated the help of Elinda Steury of the Kafakumba Clinic for arranging internal fixation with metal hardware privately under orthopaedic surgeon Dr Nelson Banda in Ndola. Happily, surgery went well, and James is now convalescing at home. Thanks to those who contribute to our medical fund.
The new Lower Primary Building project at Limapela Cedric’s is progressing steadily. We are grateful to Conrad Klingenberg for his steel fabrication experience, and to Paul Els of Shema Skills for sub-contracting the roof and ceiling installation. Painting is complete, and floor tiles and other necessary materials have now been delivered to the site. Maybe the building will be ready for use by the start of term 3 in September!

The Kafakumba Singers keep me busy. We are learning In the Beginning, a short setting of Genesis 1 that I have spent the past year writing and perfecting. We expect to take the choir to Chengelo School again for a weekend in September.
Between 25 and 30 boys and girls come twice a week now to The Running Club at Limapela Lodge. This is more than we ever anticipated, and more than we are really comfortable with! Kirsty Lickfold and I have registered 10 of them for the FNB Kopala Fun Run in Kitwe on 26 July. Last year's event was so well organised and so well enjoyed that we felt we should not miss it this year.
Our thanks once again to you all for your interest, prayers and support.
